The decision to make redundancies is never an easy one and anyone that has been involved in a redundancy process will know that no matter how thoughtfully you try and manage it, it can be incredibly difficult for all involved. 
 
Employers have a responsibility to get the process right whilst treating their staff with dignity and respect and whilst a settlement is not a replacement for following a fair redundancy procedure, it can be the best way of resolving the situation. 
 
For the employee to leave the company on agreed terms rather than allow the redundancy selection procedure to run its course.
